Today we’re proud to announce the publication of our 2024 Annual Report and second annual Lantern Transparency Report. Together, these document the commitments, progress, and opportunities from the past year in our collective effort as an industry to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA).

2024 Annual Report

The annual report outlines how the Tech Coalition and our members have advanced innovation, knowledge-sharing, and transparency in the fight against OCSEA. Some of our highlights for 2024 include:

  • Ten new members, bringing our total membership to 47 companies,
  • 44 of 45 members advanced at least one objective milepost in their ability to protect children online in 2024, totaling 122 mileposts advanced across the membership,
  • Members across sectors expanded their use of image and video hashing technologies, child sexual abuse material (CSAM) detection classifiers, and supplemental reporting, and
  • Launching the Pathways program and growing to 43 participant companies.

The Tech Coalition has also supported many opportunities for industry collaboration and tech innovation in 2024, supporting members through working groups and webinars, which is demonstrated throughout the report.

Lantern Transparency Report

The second annual Lantern transparency report provides a review of the Lantern program’s impact throughout the year and highlights insights into the metrics and outcomes of our cross-platform signal-sharing program.

In 2024:

  • Nearly 300,000 new OCSEA-related signals shared —bringing the total to over 1 million total to date,
  • 14 companies joined the program, bringing the total participants to 26 participating companies
  • 100,000+ accounts actioned,
  • 7,000+ pieces of CSAM removed,
  • 135,000+ CSEA URLs blocked or removed, and
  • Signals helped flag 81 instances of contact offenses and 45 trafficking instances.

Additionally, a financial sector pilot was launched in August 2024 with three participants, exploring how financial institutions can contribute to disrupting OCSEA-related activities. Three of the Lantern program participants are part of this pilot program.

Early insights suggest that signals are enabling financial institutions to flag and investigate potential OCSEA-related financial activity more effectively; the pilot will continue until summer 2025, at which point the Tech Coalition will evaluate its effectiveness and determine whether to continue engaging with financial institutions.

We are proud of the progress we’ve made in 2024, and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.
